Ahadu Unveils TenaFirst Plus: A Digital Health Platform with Pro Bono Services
Ahadu Web, a local IT firm, has introduced TenaFirst Plus, a digital health platform featuring pro bono services.
The platform, currently accessible on Android devices, provides telemedicine services through video and audio consultations, as well as in-person diagnoses via clinic appointments and homecare services. According to Abraham Assefa, CEO and founder of Ahdu, a decade-old IT firm, the development of TenaFirst Plus took over ten months.
The application facilitates consultations for 30 minutes, starting at 150 birr, with the amount increasing based on the doctor’s experience. The company operates on a commission basis, with TenaFirst receiving 20% of the doctor’s income from the platform.
Prior to the launch of TenaFirst, Ahadu was engaged in developing a digital clinic platform that enables clinics and hospitals to accept patient appointments online.

Ethiopia is preparing to enforce a mandatory national digital ID requirement to access select crucial government services. With nationwide implementation to be carried out in phases across government agencies, the move signals a paradigm shift where citizens without digital IDs will find themselves ineligible for these services.
Yodahe Zemichael, the Executive Director of Ethiopia’s National ID Program, shared in an interview with Shega that integrating some essential public services into the digital ID framework has been the long-term vision of the program.

Driven by the goal of becoming a leading digital solutions provider, Ethio Telecom has launched a telebirr-based digital financial marketplace that enables banks, microfinance, and insurance companies to make their financial products accessible and reach over 40 million users.

The Space Science & Geospatial Institute (SSGI) is gearing up to launch a Digital Addressing System (DAS) that will enable door-to-door services in Bishoftu City, with the feasibility study for similar efforts in Addis Ababa already completed.

The National Bank of Ethiopia (NBE) has taken another step into the world of digital finance by announcing its exploration of Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC).
The bank, in collaboration with Giesecke+Devrient (G&D), a German company that provides banknotes, securities printing, and smart cards, hosted a workshop on efficient currency management operations for the banking community yesterday, November 8, 2023.

Ethiopia Envisions Linking Digital ID with Payments
The National ID Project Program (NIDP) is collaborating with global fintech giant VISA to integrate its digital identification systems with payments, streamlining the automatic creation of bank accounts when a digital ID is issued.
Currently in the design stage, the initiative aims to establish a system where bank accounts, referred to as social accounts, are generated for customers acquiring digital IDs.
“Attaching a bank account to the rollout of Ethiopia’s digital ID can help Ethiopia significantly improve its financial inclusion,” Yared Endale, VISA Country Lead for Ethiopia, told Shega.
“We are initially working with the Cooperative Bank of Oromia but will soon collaborate with other banks. Users will have the flexibility to select their preferred bank for the account,” added Yared.
